Scout Glossary
Adventures-specific, themed lessons that the dens learn. Each den has different adventures they are required to do for their rank and also optional electives.
Belt Loops- small metal loop that slides on a belt. Each one signifies an adventure that was completed. Cub Scout equivalent of a Boy Scouts Merit Badge.
Arrow of Light (AOL)- scouts in the 5th grade
Bears-scouts in the 3rd grade
Blue and Gold- party/banquet where we celebrate the birthday of scouting, February
Class A's- formal uniform of the Cub Scouts which has the BSA and Pack insignia. The main component is the button-down navy or tan shirt.
Navy-Lions (optional), Tigers, Bears, Webelos
Tan-AOLs, Leaders
Class B's- Pack t-shirt
Crossover-ceremony where the AOL's achieve their rank and leave the Pack to join a Boy or Girl Troop.
Cubmaster- Leader of the Pack; They coordinate everything and make sure the pack is functioning smoothly.
Den-subgroup of the Pack; group of children from the same grade
Den Meeting- meeting where each den meets individually to work on rank-specific adventures.
Den Leader- adult who is the teacher/guide of the Den
Lions- scouts in Kindergarten
Pack- all the scouts in a group from Kindergarten to 5th grade
Pack Meeting- meeting where the Pack stays together to hand out earned adventures and have fun as a whole group.
Scout Sign- the action of holding up the index and middle finger of your right hand. This is a sign for everyone to quiet down and listen. If you see someone displaying it you are to become quiet and also hold your sign up.
Tigers- scouts in 1st grade
Webelos- WE'll BE LOyal Scouts; Scouts in 4th grade
Youth Protection Training (YPT)- training all leaders take to be able to spot and end all instances where there could be a chance for bullying or abuse of the scouts.
